This is an intense eight days of instruction on all types of mountain terrain which develops solid, all-round mountaineering skills as the foundation for more mountaineering/climbing adventures. Bases will be Pioneer and Centennial Huts at the tops of the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers. A number of peaks may be attempted during the 8 days.
Participants will learn about equipment, trip planning, preparation, living in mountain huts and snow shelters, knots and rope handling, glacier travel, cramponing and ice axe tchniques, crevasse extraction, rock, snow and ice anchors, multi-pitch climbing, abseiling, ridge travel, route finding, navigation, avalanche awareness, mountain weather and steep ice climbing.
Fitness level:
Participants can expect long days in challenging terrain, weather and snow conditions. A high level of fitness is required with previous trekking and/or rock climbing experience recommended.

NZ$2995.00 (GST incl.) per person Minimum of 2 people per course (Valid from 1 October 2009 to 30 September 2010)
Cost includes:
NZMGA qualified guide, helicopter flights into and out of the mountains, hut fees, all meals and snacks, technical safety equipment

In addition to these advertised courses we are happy to organise private courses for groups of friends. These can vary in length from 3 to 10 days. We are happy to quote for these.
